Insure Your Pet On A Budget
Although we're a nation of animal lovers, with 15 million dogs and cats insured, 78 per cent of us have not insured our pets. That's according to research published by insurer More Than. One of the reasons for this is the cost of cover, but the insurer has launched a policy that hopes to put pet insurance in everyone's reach.
More Th>n's Pet Saver policy starts at £4.99 a month, which buys pet owners £2,000 worth of cover for vets bills for the first 12 months of treatment, with no maximum age for pets. So there's no excuse for leaving your aging tabby uncovered, especially since 95 per cent of vets agree that pet insurance is a wise investment for a pet owner.
And there's more. A lot of owners worry about what happens if their pet goes missing. Well, the new policy has benefits to address that, too. It will pay for advertising and a reward if your dog or cat goes missing. And there's a year's free membership of the Missing Pets Bureau.
People also worry about looking after their pets in case of illness and the insurer has considered this too. If you need to go into hospital, the cost of a kennel or cattery will also be covered.
To go along with the budget pet insurance scheme, More Th>n has also launched a website. Some 45 per cent of vets say that pet owners are more interested in their pets' health, and the insurer has created a one stop online shop for pet health information. Pet owners can find out how to prevent common health problems and get information on vet practices across the country. And those who are looking for a new pet can get advice on that too. There's also a discussion forum where pet owners can discuss their pets with others. Sweet!
